• 8:50 Proposed Zoning Regulations to Address Residential Compatibility
  • County staff from the Department of Planning and Zoning and the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services will be seeking feedback from members of the building industry, the public, and other interested parties regarding proposed new zoning regulations designed to address building height and residential compatibility. Draft regulations are being developed to amend how building height is measured and to create a new setback ratio which will further restrict the height of homes in relation to their distance from the property line. The intent of the setback ratio is to limit the looming affect that can be created by tall structures built in close proximity to their property line.   • If you worked in 2008, and earned less than $42,000, then you may qualify. IRS certified volunteers will ensure you receive the maximum tax refund and help determine if you are eligible for the earned income tax credit.

  • What Is The Northern Virginia (NOVA) Cash Campaign?
    The Northern Virginia CASH Campaign provides free tax preparation services to low-income members of the Northern Virginia community. Through a coalition of libraries, faith and community-based groups, public agencies, and businesses the mission is to increase financial literacy among low-income taxpayers.

  • Find out about the proposed widening of Route 50 from four lanes divided to six lanes divided to increase capacity along the roadway. The proposed improvements are located on Route 50 (Lee-Jackson Memorial Highway) between Route 742 (Poland Road) and Route 28 (Sully Road). The 3.6-mile widening would also include improvements at cross streets and stream crossings.
  • Review the proposed project plans depicting the major design features at the public hearing or before the hearing at VDOT’s Northern Virginia District office located at the above address, telephone number (703) 737-2000 or TTY/TDD 711. Many of you have expressed interest in our other smart growth programs, and we hope you will consider participating in this one as well.   • The Washington Smart Growth Alliance invites you to attend our 2009 Annual Conservation Summit at 12:30 – 3:30 P.M. on April 2, 2009. The summit will be held at the Greater Washington Board of Trade SunTrust Conference Center, 1725 I Street, NW, Suite 200, Washington DC 20006.
  • Why you should attend
    This summit is the official launch of our Regional Conservation Priorities program, which will culminate in the publication of our Regional Conservation Priorities report in the fall. This yearly report highlights conservation projects that are deemed critical to the future quality of life for the region and that would benefit most from timely recognition and a boost in business sector and general public awareness and endorsement. The benefits of listing include business recognition, publicity surrounding the publication release, letters and testimony on behalf of each project, and other opportunities for speaking engagements and support. Summit attendees will have further opportunities to participate in the program during the year and will receive a copy of the 2009 Regional Conservation Priorities report.
  • The agenda
    The summit program will begin with lunch and a brief talk by George Hawkins, the District of Columbia Director of Environment, on the importance of conservation to the region’s quality of life and overall sustainability. George brings to the region the insights of a diverse background in environmental law, smart growth advocacy, and innovative conservation initiatives. The main work will take place in three facilitated breakouts (by jurisdiction - Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia), where participants will generate a list of potential nominee projects as well as identify overarching themes that cross jurisdictional lines. The meeting will adjourn promptly at 3:30 P.M.

    Attendees recognize the value of setting conservation priorities with an organization that blends the interests of businesses, environmental groups, governmental agencies and civic groups. Join this diverse group for a lively discussion of conservation priorities for the region!
