At the May 27, 1998 meeting, the council members heard a report of the progress of the I-66 Corridor Major Investment Study. The study group reviewed all 15 of the options originally presented and selected the options to go forward.
Upon review, the District Council members felt that the combination of options was the best choice to go forward. This combination would combine additional general purpose lanes on I-66, Route 29 and Route 50; reversible, barrier-separated HOV on I-66; extension of the existing Metrorail system to Centreville, with light rail service north to Dulles Airport and south to Manassas focused on an extended Metrorail terminus station at Centreville.
It was also felt that these improvements should be implemented at different schedules, with the following improvements ranked as high priority: reversible, barrier-separated HOV on I-66; extension of the existing Metrorail system to Centreville, with light rail service north to Dulles Airport and south to Manassas focused on an extended Metrorail terminus station at Centreville.
These improvements were ranked as lower priority; additional general purpose lanes on I-66, Route 29 and Route 50.
At the 24 June meeting, the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Kate Hanley, will be the guest speaker. All are welcome - please bring your friends and neighbors!
