- Concerned about your real estate assessment?
- Administrative appeals can be filed with DTA if property owners believe their assessment is not equitable in comparison with similar properties, or if they believe their assessment exceeds fair market value. Residential assessment appeals can be initiated online through DTA’s website, www.fairfaxcounty.gov/taxes, or filed in writing. Appeal forms can be downloaded directly from DTA’s webpage.
- DTA encourages property owners to call 703-222-8234 if they have questions as early as possible. Administrative appeal applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2018, or filed online by midnight (EST) of May 1, 2018.
- Real Estate appeals can also be filed with the Board of Equalization (BOE) by June 1, 2018. Under State law, the BOE is separate from the DTA and consists of nine taxpayers appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The BOE conducts formal hearings and considers sworn testimony. BOE appeal forms are also available on the BOE website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/boe or by calling the BOE office at 703-324-4891.

- Two Programs Can Help You Save Money and Protect Our Environment
- Get Up to Five Free LED Lightbulbs at Six Libraries in April and May — These LEDs use 85 percent less energy than an old incandescent bulb and 33 percent less energy than a CFL. When you come to get your free LED, if you bring in up to four incandescent or compact fluorescent lightbulbs, we’ll exchange them for LEDs that offer a warm white light equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent lightbulb. “It’s a small change that makes a big impact for residents and the environment,” says Jessica Lavender, Energy Action Fairfax program manager. Find out dates and locations at NewsCenter.
- Limited-Time Discounts on Solar Panels for Your Home or Business — Slash your electricity bill by 60 percent or more by going solar! From April 2 through May 31, discounted solar panels are available through Solarize Fairfax County. We are partnering with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the nonprofit Local Energy Alliance Program to offer this program for one-time, low prices with companies chosen through competitive bids.
