   • Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project held a Public Information Meeting on the Centreville Road Bridge Nighttime Installation on 24 September 2015
     
     • The Centreville Road Bridge will carry future Silver Line trains over Centreville Road. To ensure the safety of vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, the work will require nighttime lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. In addition, between midnight to 5 a.m., traffic on Centreville Road will experience intermittent full road closures, varying from five (5) to a maximum of twenty (20) minutes each.  Full closures will be implemented when the work spans the entire width of the roadway. The work is scheduled to continue at night through October and into November.  
     • The work will entail the use of three cranes to set large girders, floor beams and floor decking for the bridge directly over Centreville Road.  Two cranes will work from the Dulles International Airport Access Highway and one will be placed on Centreville Road.

   • BULL RUN POST OFFICE ROAD CLOSURE
     • Paving of gravel surface will occur over five weeks starting Monday morning, 20 September 2015
     • Bull Run Post Office Road will be closed from Cedar Ridge Boulevard to just south of the entrance to Cardinal Ridge Elementary School in order to replace the gravel road surface with pavement, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. 
     • The paving will occur from Buffalo Run Lane to just south of the entrance to Cardinal Ridge Elementary School. In addition, the ditches will be restored along this stretch of road.
     • The closure will remain in place until late October. Only residents within the work zone and emergency responders will have access during this time. 
     • Through traffic will be detoured via Cedar Ridge Boulevard, Gum Spring Road and Braddock Road.
     • The project is being carried out under VDOT’s Rural Rustic Road Program, which aims to preserve the traditional feel of a rural road while making surface and other improvements within the current right-of-way. For more information on the Rural Rustic Road Program, click here.

   • West Bound I-66 Paving In Arlington/Falls Church Early To Mid October 2015 2015

   Nighttime lane closures will occur during three weeks of work 

   • Westbound I-66 between Lee Highway and the Dulles Airport Access Road will receive its final paving and permanent striping as part of the I-66 Spot Improvements project.
   • Lane closures will occur during the three weeks of work, which will take place each week Sunday through Friday night, from 10 each night until 5 the following morning.
   • Motorists can expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.
   • Upon completion of this work in mid-October, traffic will be flowing in its final configuration through the project.
   • The work is part of the $33 million project to improve westbound I-66 inside the Beltway by connecting the Washington Boulevard on-ramp to the off-ramp at the Dulles Airport Access Road, creating a new one-mile stretch of auxiliary lane. A new 12-foot shoulder will have full-strength pavement capable of carrying traffic during emergencies. The project is scheduled for final completion in November.
   • A similar project completed in December 2011 extended the acceleration lane at Fairfax Drive to the deceleration lane at Sycamore Street, creating a continuous lane of almost two miles between the two ramps.
   • A third project between Lee Highway and Glebe Road is planned but not yet fully funded for construction.
   • Route 50 Nighttime Paving In Chantilly October 2015

   Route 50 Nighttime Paving In Chantilly will reduce Traffic to one lane during four weeks of work 

   • Route 50 between the bridge over Cub Run just east of Pleasant Valley Road in Fairfax County and Route 28 will receive final paving and new permanent striping as part of the Route 50 Widening project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
   • Over the course of four weeks, the work will progress westward on Route 50 toward the bridge over Cub Run, then shift to eastbound Route 50 at the bridge and progress eastward toward Route 28.
   • The work will occur each week Sunday through Friday night (except for next week), beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting until 5:30 a.m. the following day. During this timeframe, traffic will be reduced to one lane between Pleasant Valley Road in Fairfax County and Route 28.
   • Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes. Message display signs are being placed to notify the public of the work. Access to and from side streets and entrances off Route 50 will not be affected.
   • The work is scheduled for completion in late October.
   • The $94.9 million project to widen Route 50 from four to six lanes between Route 28 in Fairfax County and Poland Road in Loudoun County is scheduled for substantial completion in October and final completion in November. For more information, visit the project page.

   • Stringfellow Road Park-and-Ride in Centreville has a new entrance 7 October 2015
   • Beginning Wednesday, 7 Oct, all cars entering the Stringfellow Road Park-and-Ride in Centreville will need to use a new entrance located at the intersection of Stringfellow Road and Fair Lakes Blvd.
   • Patrons should note that the old park-and-ride entrance will be designated for bus use only; access to the parking lot will no longer be available from the old entrance.

Reston Bike Share Project Community Meeting 29 October 2015

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will be hosting a community meeting on the Reston Bike Share Project on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Dogwood Elementary School, 12300 Glade Drive, Reston. At the meeting, the public will learn about:

• Work that has been done since the feasibility study was finalized in 2014.
• Where the county is in the process of looking at the feasibility of the proposed bike share system.
• Timeline and next steps.

Staff will be available at the meeting to answer questions and will be coming back to the public in the near future to request feedback on the proposed station locations that are currently being finalized. Background: Fairfax County is exploring the feasibility of installing a bike share system in Reston and whether such a system could complement the expanding local multi-modal transportation network. The County was awarded technical assistance through the Transportation/Land-Use Connections Program, funded by the Transportation Planning Board of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) to conduct this feasibility study.
