The renovation and expansion of the project entails renovating the existing Police Station and expanding the facility with an approximately 17,000 square foot addition. The Fire/Rescue Station will include minor renovations and a 2,000 square foot addition. Construction is anticipated to start in the spring of 2009.

- Proponent: Kay Hellenbrand Rutledge, P.E., Manager, Land Acquisition and Management Branch, Planning and Development Division, Fairfax County Park Authority
- Action: The Fairfax County Park Authority is holding a public hearing to receive public comment on the acquisition of property. PPT PDF
- Location: The property consists of 5.88 acres and is identified on the Fairfax County Real Property Identification Maps as TM 34-2 ((1)) Parcel 12, hereinafter referred to as the "Stout property." The Stout property is located at the end of Barnsfield Road east of Route 28 and northeast of the Sully Historic Site.
The acquisition of the Stout property will provide a buffer between the neighboring Dulles Discovery development to the northeast and the Sully Historic Site, giving additional protection to the historical and cultural resources at Sully. Due to its proximity to the Manassas Gap Railroad built in the 1850's, the Stout property is likely to contain artifacts of historic significance.
The Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning for the Dulles Discovery development, RZ 2003-SU-035, in January 2007. One of the proffered conditions for this rezoning required Sully East L.C. ("Sully East") to acquire the Stout property and dedicate it to the Park Authority. The proffer also stated that should Sully East be unsuccessful in acquiring the property, it could request the Park Authority use its power of eminent domain to condemn the Stout property by condemnation. All costs for the acquisition, including that of outside counsel and other legal costs, would be fully paid by Sully East.
Sully East has not been successful n acquiring the property and is now requesting the Park Authority use its power of eminent domain to do so. Pursuant to the proffer, the Park Authority must authorize condemnation of the Stout property within 180 days from the time of the request, or Sully East is no longer obligated to acquire the Stout property. This time period expires May 20, 2008.
For more information see the Park Authority's web page
- 9:30
- Proponent: Katherine D. Youngbluth, Urban Planner, Cooley Godward Kronish LLP for the United Auto Group
- Action: Partial proffered condition amendment ("PCA") and special exception amendment ("SEA") application
- Location: The PCA/SEA application seeks to permit two car dealerships on Fairfax County Tax Map number 33-4 ((1)) 3B (the "Property"), located in the southwest quadrant of Stonecroft Boulevard and Stonecroft Center Court.
The Property is a part of RZ 2004-SU-028 and SE 2004-SU-027, which the Board of Supervisors approved in 2005. RZ 2004-SU-028 and SE 2004-SU-027, rezoned the Property and Parcels 3G1 and 3G2 to the C-8 Zoning District with a Special Exception to allow vehicle sales, rental and ancillary service establishments. The Applicant has the right under the governing proffers, development conditions and Generalized Development Plan/Special Exception/Proffered Condition Amendment Plat ("GDP/SE/PCA") to construct a single 70,000 square foot building. The pending PCA/SEA application proposes merely to replace the approved building with two dealership buildings that total 65,000 square feet, plus a 5,000 square foot carwash.
We anticipate that the application will be heard by the Planning Commission sometime this Spring.

- Cindy Mercer, Coordinator, VDOT Adopt-a-Highway Program
- Christin Jolicoeur, Watershed Specialist, NVSWCD
- Many people complain about the signs and litter they see along roads, highways and streams. If not cleaned up, the quantity of trash becomes a polluting eyesore. What can be done about it?
- The speakers will address four programs designed to help clean up our environment - the County’s Clean Fairfax Council program, the annual spring cleanup sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation, VDOT’s Adopt-a-Highway Program that authorizes individuals and organizations to remove litter from the VDOT rights-of-way, and the Adopt-a-Stream program. This should inspire you to get your families, friends and communities involved in making Fairfax cleaner and greener.
- The Virginia chapter of the American Planning Association will hold the opening session of its annual conference on Wednesday, March 26, at the Reston Town Center
- The topic of the conference will be Creating Healthy Communities. The two first-morning keynote speakers will be Reston founder Robert Simon and Richard Louv, author of the bestselling Last Child in the Woods.
- The flyer contains more information as well as the registration form. VAPA is offering open registration for the morning session when these two speakers will make their presentations.
- The annual spring Alice Ferguson foundation cleanup of the Potomac River Watershed will take place on Saturday, April 5, or a weekend before or after that date, depending on the schedule of your volunteer team.
- The Fairfax Watershed Network is partnering with the Alice Ferguson foundation to coordinate the 2008 Potomac River Watershed Cleanup in Fairfax County. Many small neighborhood park and stream cleanups are being planned throughout the county. We are looking for volunteers to help pick up trash at these cleanups, but we are especially looking for people to establish their own neighborhood cleanups. This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups of any size. Most cleanups will be held on Saturday, April 5, but cleanups can be organized in the weeks before or after those dates.
- Held annually since 1989, the Potomac River Watershed Cleanup has engaged over 35,000 volunteers and 250 partners, and removed more than 2.5 million pounds of trash from the Potomac Watershed. Cleanup locations are posted on the website below. Registering a new cleanup can also be done on the website, but if you need help finding a suitable location, recruiting volunteers, and having your full trash bags removed after the cleanup, please contact Dan Schwartz at the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District.
