a Tree Dedication and Plaque Unveiling
Friday, 16 April 1999, 4 PM
at the
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Academy
4600 West Ox Road, Fairfax
In April, 1995, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Urban Search and Rescue Team, CA-TF1, was deployed to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to assist in rescue efforts in the aftermath of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing disaster.
Ata recent ceremony in Oklahoma City, our firefighters received a sapling from the only tree to survive the bombing in front of the Murrah building, to plant and nurture in the Fairfax County community in memory of the lives lost in the bombing and as an everlasting bond of friendship between the people of Oklahoma City and Fairfax County.
The Dix-Cen-Gato Civic Association, together with the members of the VA-TF1, planted the sapling on the Academy grounds, and will care for the tree as it matures. The Sully District Council of Citizens Associations donated the funds for the plaque commemorating this event.
