The General assembly gave VDOT, DMV and the State Police the opportunity to address safety issues on designated areas of highway through the Highway Safety Corridor Program. Ultimately, these highway safety zones could received increased law enforcement, education and safety enhancements.
Tell them what you think as they develop criteria to identify locations that need more safety attention. For example, is there an area on I-95, the Capital Beltway, Routes 15, 28 or similar highway that should be designated a highway safety zone? What makes that a good location for this designation? What does a safe highway mean to you?
If you cannot attend and want to know more about the program and how to submit comments for the record, contact HighwaySafetyZones@VirginiaDOT.org. VDOT, DMV and the State Police are accepting comments on highway safety zone criteria until 16 October.
